Death’s Moon
The baying of wolves made the young man start. He knew what they were and what they were after. The animal they caught squealed as they took it down. The crunching of bones and the tearing of flesh made the boy want to throw up his meal. Bowing his head he tried not to look towards the sky. The moon was throwing out her siren sweet melody; beckoning him to release the inner beast. The beast, that howls at the moon. Finally succumbing to the deadly call he raises his head and stares listlessly into the sky. His heart begins to beat louder in his ears. His teeth elongated to become fangs. The sound of bones cracking an shifting resonated his body. Ripping at his clothes he tore the clothes from his body. Once the transformation was complete a white werewolf stood in the boys place. His sapphire eyes glittered with an animalistic malice. Throwing back his head he howled to the moon. The siren’s call had being answered.
With a swift leap the white blur was running through the woods. He was seeking blood. Blood of what he didn’t know. Searching, seeking, and scenting it was out there what ever it was that he was looking for. A village came into sight the scent of death was heavy in the air. The other pack members had already begun to kill everyone in the small town. Bodies lay scattered all over the small town. The corpses lay in pools of their own blood. The heavy scent in the air only made the white werewolf snort in disgust. Being white the he had some sense of consciousness about what he did in beast form. One woman had her abdomen torn open and a half formed baby lay out into the cold air. Stepping back from the dead woman he snorted and shook himself. The loud screaming caught his acute ears. Turning swiftly on his hind legs he launched himself towards where the screaming had come from. A defenseless girl was cornered by three gray werewolves. They were snarling and barking at her. They’re coats were bathed in the blood of the humans that they had killed previously. Not liking the odds he leapt to stand in front of the girl. Snarling towards the grays he tried to get them to back off. A black blur landed right in front of the white werewolf baying at the other werewolves. The gray’s backed off reluctantly.
‘You’ve finally come,’ the white growled.
‘Yes,’ the other hissed. ‘Take care of the girl. I’ll finish these grays off.’
The white only nodded and nudged the girl gently with his nose. She hugged him close once she realized he wasn’t a threat. The black leapt forward and slashed into the grays. Blood sprayed from the pack leader’s arteries. The blood sprayed hotly into the snow. The other pack members stared at the black werewolf. If they had any consciousness on their human side they might have stared in shock. The black didn’t care to give them a chance to regroup, so he leapt forward and slashed into the next wolf’s back. Rebounding off the wall the other wolf tried to throw him into he locked his teeth on the enemies spine and using his hind feet as leverage he pushed out exposing the spine. With a powerful crunch the gray’s back was broken. It went limp in his mouth. Blood dripped from the black’s fangs. The third gray had turned and fled like a wimp. Snorting he turned to find another black and white wolf standing before him.
‘Well done,’ the white bowed her graceful head.
The black diamond on her forehead showed her status. The black male had the reverse of the female white wolf. They were the leaders of the white and black packs. They were the reason that the whites and blacks got along so well. The alpha from each pack mated together. Other black and white wolves came from the shadows to clean up the mess the rabid grays had made. The white from before came back into the circle with the girl he had saved on his back.
‘Is it over?’ the little white barked.
‘Yes, it’s done for now. Take your girl and leave.’
The white bowed his head and walked away with his prize. The black raised his head up to the sky and howled towards the moon.
