INTRODUCTION

“The eyes are the windows to the soul.”

I remember when I was first told that. I was seven years old and I had just visited a fortune teller with my big sister Anna. My sister wanted to get her fortune in love told to her to see if she and her old boyfriend during that time, two months later he had broken up with her. But at that fortune place after my sister was done the strong women with gray hair and these deep blue eyes looked straight at me and said those words.

For the next ten years, I never bothered with it. Over the years it just seemed to pass through my mind like the wind over the grass in a meadow. I had focussed myself mainly on my studies. When I had turned 16, Anna was killed by a drunk driver in a car crash on the way back from a party. The driver just happened to have been her boyfriend, who, surprisingly survived. I had never forgiven him even to this very day for taking the only best friend I had from my life. Yes I had others but my big sister was always there for me even if she was fifteen years older then I was. Even though the man has tried to apologize for what he has done, he was so persistent that my father had one night called the cops on him.

After Anna was killed, I could barely concentrate in school. It felt like my soul was shattering deep inside me for losing someone so close. My mother too was becoming so depressed that, she once took me on with a knife when I asked if she needed any help cleaning the house. It took until my father to come home to fully clam her down, but during that time I had kept myself locked up in my very room with the door locked.

But my soul, even in school with all my friends around. It seemed to grow smaller and smaller as time went on. Until I was told I looked like death, my skin had become paler then normal, my eyes looked sunken into my head with dark circles under my eyes. At the beginning of my eleventh year in high school, which I thought would turn out like many of my other year in school. It all seemed to change the moment I saw him...A young man with striking eyes of gray that caught my attention, and that is when the old saying returned to me...
