let’s forget regret but mustn’t we remember the mistakes,

the regrets, to learn?

let’s remember to learn from the past,

but isn’t the past what’s holding us back?

clinging to us like lint, fuzz from a dryer

like a petulant child wanting something

clinging, pulling, forever with heavy chains

connected to out own thin wrists

I remember…

-but no, we mustn’t cling to the

past like it does to us,

like dirty cobwebs!

but still…

I remember times with friends, with family

happy, sad, constant-emotion-times

forever lingering within the dark abyss of my mind

like sparkling jewels pulled straight from the Earth

…but the past clings so!

so let us not look to the past!

we must look to the future

‘cause that’s what we are

tomorrow’s future, is what they say

don’t drown in the memories of the past

let us drown within the uncertain future

but isn’t that just as bad?

let us forget the past-

let us forget our regrets-

learn the lesson, keep it, and throw away the regret

but let us drown within the intensity of the now!

for that is what we are

laughing as the sands fall within the hourglass

glance at the past to learn

glance at the future for hope
