I can’t believe it.
As I walk the blood stained desert sands, my eyes are burned by the rising sun.
The moon is still setting behind me.
Can this really be happening?

From the bodies burned around me, and the stench that fills the air, somebody stirred.
I look to find my friend and partner, her hair a bloody mess and her skin black from soot.
We lock eyes and share a moment.
Everything is finally over.

The war that started years ago is finally at a close.
Main artilleries were destroyed and the ground crew was all dead.
There were no more soldiers.
They were all dead.

I remember the final blast well.
It was at a distance.
We shouted at each other to take cover, and we used already dead bodies to protect us.
It was a bright flash, a loud crash of thunder, and a wave of wind I never felt before.

But we survived.
Are we just lucky?
Or is there another force out there that wants us alive?

As we walk the dusty landscape together, our hands grasp one another.
We had almost lost each other back there.
I don’t want that to happen again.

The sun rises in the bright wake of the night.
We walk unto the light, hopeful for the coming future.

Author's Note:
This is based upon the song "The War is Over" by Sarah Brightman on the album "Harem". It's a real pretty song. This poem is a spontaneous urge to write with the vision of the music video for the song "Broken" by Amy Lee and some other dude I don't know. Please r&r! I don't get anything.
