Little girl

Doesn’t think twice

About letting her needs be known

No qualms

About asking for help

Feels no shame

That she can’t do it alone

Runs up reaching

Waiting to be picked up and loved

Rocked to sleep in the arms of a

Much older girl

Too stung

To jump back in again

Too afraid

To ask for what she needs

So certain that no one wants to hear

Too proud

To let herself cry

And all either wants

Is for someone to hold her

And tell her it will be alright
