Which gift is better?
One is truly a gift, one is not.
One people enjoy more,
One they steer clear of.
Talking!
Words flow out of
The red bloomed mouth
Like a booming waterfall.
Full of energy, notes, emotions.
Always giving, never taking.
Talking fills the room
Faster than a stampede,
It’s a stampede of itself.
Too fast to pay attention,
To those too quiet to
Use the gift of their tongue,
Who just watch in silence.
Silence.
The trap door of the mouth,
Which in fact IS a trap door,
Is nailed shut with thought.
The eyes are its scouts.
Watching the others
Flout, and prounce, and scream.
Sometimes wishing to speak,
But once the words flow,
They softly go by
Like a creek on a summer day.
They are still put in the
Middle of the wild chaos,
Laughing out notes
Along with the rest, but
Silently finding secret messages
In the strewn words.
Seeing the others of no words
And finding their problems.
The Gift of Observance.
Never to fight over opinion.
The better gift is the latter.
I’d rather be silent and help,
Then sit and complain,
My words filling the heads
Of the others who already
Are waiting to explode
With their own problems.
Watching, finding the beauty
Within
Instead of the sound of
Outward.
I’d choose the one true gift,
I’d choose the one they steer clear of,
I choose silence,
And all the gifts and talents and abilities
That come with it
To fix what the others have.
