She lived by the ocean
She lived by the sea,
She could twist cherry stems with her tongue
And balance on one knee.
She loved William Shakespeare,
And loved Edgar Poe,
She embroidered her last name
On all her cotton clothes.
She had sea foam green eyes
And toenails in kelly green
She listened to music from musicals
And tore holes in the screen.
She made pearl-white cirrus clouds
Her father was the sandman,
She could capture words
And speak to the birds
Like no other can.
