640

-Modulated

I assume someone else knows a 640

With a 2190 comp and a 3.8 gpa

I'd assume you'd know the fear that comes

Can only go down, go down.

Or at .least you know what it's like to be a number.

640 is all I'll be to MIT and Harvard

They call them Reach, like it's something that is possible

All that it means is that maybe, other numbers will speak louder than 640.

They may say you’re a "whole," "comprehensive," "character,"

But until the machine

That my father helped build

Spits out the numbers

Then you’re a Person!

Or you’re a Thin Envelope, spat from another machine that crushes a thousand dreams a day.

We certainly aren't people. We're a pool.

Natural selection depends on diversity and limited resources

Not that I know that little fact. I'm a 640

There is so much promise in a blank scantron.

I could tell you about the dozen other things you already know

But now, there's just a promise, like the song I sang when I was little.

Perhaps I'll get that song back in a fat envelope

For now all I have is 640.

I could tell you the ranges and the probabilities

But you already know.

Maybe you know when your friends and parents congratulated you.

But their eyes tell a different story.

The realization that not as good as it could have been.

I could probably tell you a dozen other things that you already know

That is what Binds Us Together.

800.

700.

600.

500.

400.

That is what Tears Us Apart.
