So high up

Man, we're so high up here

You spot the traffic cones

that wink orange and silver

On the highway,

All those things

that you said would never stop

Can't say you were right

because now it's not on my mind

Or yours,

Otherwise how would you smile

As we sip Coke and

dangle our feet off the edge

Of the white rusted metal

that we once looked up to

I'm sure I've forgotten

When you're arm wraps with mine

And i look to the star-filled sky

For nothing else but a meteor

Or a UFO

But the rain falls despite

Our efforts to shield it

From our heads

with soggy newspapers

and cotton jackets

So we soak it up

And fill our Coke cans

that make music all their own

Here's to aluminum, you say

And I smile

Yeah, we'll soak up that rain

Through our pores

And maybe it'll wash away

those fleeting thoughts

Of the pain

Misdirected anger

On hot stovetops

and sparking radiators

that took down that house

Along with the memories

that I'd like to keep

Please, let's just think of the good ones,

So we can forget

the worst parts

Of the unrelenting past,
