Drowning

Sadness washes over me,
memories of him, an anchor
forcing me under.

i gasp for just one (simple) breath,
the salt water scalding my throat as i choke.
i implore someone (anyone) to heal me,
but there are no mermaids (only sharks).

My mind shuts down
as his words flood my lungs.
i'm destined to be swept away
alone at sea (a forgotten memory).
