Angel in Disguise

He was seventeen years old, he had perfect grades, and had a part time job. He attended Tokyo High, it was one of the top high schools in Japan. He was tall, dark, and handsome. He was always the talk of the school, but he had no friends.

Why?

Because he was a bad boy, he was in a gang, and he had been to jail.

People would always start rumors about him and since no one knew anything about him, so they always thought that they were true. They seemed to know more about him then he knew about himself. Teachers also left him alone-they were afraid of him. It was a rumored that he belonged to the Enma gang, one of the worst gangs in Tokyo. He walked into class like he always did.

“Ah, Watanabe-san you’re just in time to meet the new student.” The teacher looked at the new student. “Introduce yourself.”

“Hi! I’m Sayumi Matsumoto! It’s a pleasure to meet you!” She said with a cheerful smile.

“…I’m Suoh Watanabe…” He really didn’t know what to say, he never had anyone talk to him with a smile on their face, so he went and sat down in his seat.

“Ah…Matsumoto you can sit next to Watanabe-san.” Teacher felt kind of bad for doing this, but there were no other seats available for her.

She walked to her seat and sat down. She looked at Watanabe and blushed, she didn’t notice it before but he was really handsome. Watanabe looked at her, and saw her staring at him “What?!” he yelled without thinking. Dammit I always do this, she wasn’t being mean or anything.

She jumped a little “I…I was just looking at you, and thinking to myself that you are really handsome!” She said with a smile.

Everyone in the room gasped, no one ever stared, nor spoke, to Watanabe.

“…well, stop it, it’s annoying, and your cheerfulness is annoying too!” he yelled. He looked away and just looked out the window, hoping school would be over soon.

The teacher continued on with class, ignoring what just happened. The bell rang at 11:30a.m. “Alright, kids, time for lunch”

Everyone got up and got their lunches from the cubby holes most of the kids brought food from home because it tasted better than the cafeteria food, but kids that had busy parents, or that were to lazy to make it themselves, bought food from the cafeteria. A bunch of people went over to Sayumi and introduced themselves, the boys came over, too. She was a very pretty girl, she had the traditional black hair and the traditional brown eyes, yet she always stood out from everyone else. Maybe it was her personality everyone thought was attractive, she never knew why people liked her. She was pretty normal, and she wasn’t really rich either.

Sayumi smiled at them all, then looked at Watanabe sitting by himself. She excused herself and went over to sit by him. “Um about before I’m really sorry about that,” she said apologetically.

He looked at her “…uh, it’s okay, it was my fault. I shouldn’t have yelled at you like that”

She smiled at him, then looked at everyone else. There was a 10 foot radius around him and her. “Um…may I asked you a question?”

“Sure, but if you’re going to ask why no one is around me it’s because they are afraid of me,” Watanabe said.

“Oh…I’m not afraid of you Watanabe-san” She said with a smile.

“Not yet,” he said under his breath. The students at the school always ended up making the new students afraid of him, telling them horrible things about him which 99 of the time was not true. He decided to try and be her friend and if it didn’t work in the end it’d be the same as usual, no big. “You can call me Suoh if you want to.”

“Really? That’s awesome you can call me Sayu! It’s nice and short!” She said smiling “You’re my first friend at Tokyo High!”

Friend? Did she just say friend? Wow you’re … “My first friend at Tokyo High, too…how pathetic is that?”

“It’s okay! It’s just takes some people longer then others!” Sayu said happily.

“Alright kids lunch is over, back to your seats!” Teacher said as he walked back into the classroom.

Class was over, Sayu and Suoh were on cleaning duty today. Sayu had told the other kids to go home, she could do it by herself.

“God damn, where is everyone else?!” Suoh yelled.

“Uh…Well, you see I told everyone else to go home because I wanted to talk to you, and you don’t seem to like the other students very much. Soo…” Sayu told him, hoping he wasn’t mad.

He looked at her, sighed, “Yeah, I guess your right. So what did you want to talk about anyways?”

“How did the rumors get started? Like…they start somewhere you know? And if you don’t want to tell me I completely understand” Sayu told him.

“Well…I was gone for 3 days, I was at the hospital, I gotten into a fight with this other gang. And I had kept the fact that I was in a gang pretty low key. But when I came back to school with bruises and a broken arm rumors got started. I really didn’t want people to know I got beat up by a…by the other gang. So I kept my mouth shut, then the rumors continued to get worse and worse. And people are now terrified I might kill them because apparently when I was 14 I killed someone, but my father paid money to hush it all up. So please don’t believe any of those rumors, the only things that are really true is that I am in a gang and it is Enma gang, I don’t know how people found that out. Oh, and I do get in fights, but yeah other wise I am pretty nice guy,” Suoh told her.

“WOW! You’re in the Enma gang?! I’ve heard about them! Wow it’s so crazy I never thought I’d meet a member of the gang, well and if I did I pictured more…gang-like situations?” Sayu said with excitement.

“Wow you have got to be the weirdest person I have ever met. Do you want to meet the gang?” Suoh asked her.

“They won’t kill me will they? Cause I don’t feel like dying you know?” Sayu said.

“No, they won’t kill you,” Suoh said with a laugh.

They walked out of the school together. By the time they left it was dark outside, it was only 6 though. They walked down a dark alley, Sayu held onto his arm a little scared. Suoh looked down at her, “Not scared, are you?”

Sayu gulped, “No, not one bit.”

“Then why are you cutting off the circulation in my arm?” Suoh asked her.

“oh, I’m sorry!”

“It’s okay, ah we’re here,” Suoh knocked on the door three times.

Someone opened it up “Hey man, whats up? Whose the hot chick?” The guy asked.

“Hey Akio, her name is Sayumi Matsumoto” Suoh told him.

“How did you snag such a hottie?” Akio asked.

“I uh…um she is new at the school and um..,” Suoh had no idea what to say.

“Honey, why don’t you come in and sit next to Akio”

Sayu looked at him “I…uh okay” Akio took Sayu’s hand, Sayu took Suoh’s hand, they all went and sat on the couch.

“Sayu, this is basically my family, what do you think?” Suoh asked her. The place was really run down, and it also didn’t smell that good.

“It’s nice,” she said lying.

“Yeah, I know it sucks, but hey it’s a place I can go to, to get away from my family,” Suoh said with a smile.

“I live here!” Akio said happily

Sayu looked at him, she kind of felt bad he was living in a dump “Wow, awesome…do you live by yourself?”

“Yeah…”

“Don’t you get lonely?” Sayu asked him.

“Yeah…why don’t you come by and keep me company?” Akio asked.

“Yeah, I don’t think she’ll come alone though, Akio…I’ll come with her, then you’ll have twice the company,” Suoh wasn’t going to let Akio be alone with Sayu. Sure he was a nice guy, but…he wasn’t very trustworthy when it came to being alone with girls.

“But three’s a crowd Suoh, don’t you trust me?” Akio asked.

“No. No, I don’t not with Sayu,” Suoh said.

“Do you like her?” Akio asked.

Sayu was over talking to the only girl in the gang. “Well I don’t know if I like him,” Sayu told Aiko. Akio and Aiko were twins, Akio was a boy and Aiko was a girl.

“I guess I like her…wait, no…I don’t know. She is the only person in that school that has ever talked to me after what happened. So I dunno, she is a nice girl and all, but she shouldn’t go out with someone like me, you know? She is nice, and people like her. But soon people will probably start rumors about her being in a gang and killing people. Maybe I should start being mean to her so she’ll have more friends, and I go back to being my loner self,” Suoh said depressed.

“Man you are f’ed up I swear. One minute you were all like happy you had a friend at school, next minute you are saying you should de-friend her. And people say I am messed up” Akio told Suoh.

“Hey man, it’s” He was interrupted by Sayu.

“Suoh! Can you walk me home? I need to be home at 9:00 and its 8:50 and I don’t know where we are,” Sayu asked.

“Yeah sure!” Suoh stood up “See ya guys later!” Suoh said with a smile.

“Bye! It was nice meeting you all!” Sayu said with smile, too.

The two of them walked out of the apartment together.

“Did you see that? Suoh was smiling…I haven’t seen him smile in ages,” Aiko asked

“Yeah…he was….I think it’s that girl…amazing…I didn’t think Suoh would ever smile again.”

“Thank you…” Suoh said appreciatively.

“Um…For what Suoh-kun?” Sayu asked.

“For…saying I’m your friend…I don’t have many friends, the only people I ever talked to was people in the gang and that was it.” Suoh said depressingly.

“Well, I’ll be your friend forever! I promise! You’ll always have me at school,” Sayu said with a smile. “Well here is my house! I’ll see you tomorrow Suoh-kun! Thank you for a wonderful first day!” Sayu said with a smile.

Suoh smiled, “Your welcome…”

Then she walked inside.
