“this is a season of wonders,” i’d like to say
(but i don’t, because this lush silence is too beautiful)
as we walk through the park
lake glittering in the horizon sunlight
stepping on the stone wall that
separates
it from the path
and the water’s shimmering,
right
there.
not quite sunset
so the grass still glows
in the rays that fall
long and sideways
across them
brilliant green
just like the tree-leaves
with the bright blue shards of sky that shine between them
and all this growth hiding in its cool shadow-shelter
the nymphs
as they weave their quiet
summer magic.
