Just One Wish
Epilogue
The couple spent their last hours together, Alisterre occasionally leaving to type up the latest occurrences. And just before she would have to go to sleep and wake up without him near her, she insisted on typing something more, though she'd already finished typing up her 'wishbringer diary.' She let everything remain the same, except that Joshua could stay. The ending went something like this:
So, in the end, when it came to choose, I chose the only one I wouldn't be able to have: Josh. And really, he was everything a girl would want: charm, grace, looks, intelligence, the whole set. Unfortunately, he was a wishbringer, immortal and trapped in his vase.
Then, after he had sent the other two off, I had a brain flash. "Josh, do you think I could wish you free?"
Slowly a smile spread across his face. "You know, I was hoping you'd say that very thing! That's the only way a wishbringer can be freed, you know. And the truth is that it's quite selfless, so there won't be any consequences. Plus, any wishbringer good enough to make someone want to wish them free should be rewarded, shouldn't they?"
"So, it'll work?" I asked hopefully.
Josh only nodded.
"Okay," I said, taking a deep breath. "Joshua, I wish you free."
And suddenly, with a small pop, the vase disappeared!
At this point, Joshua had come to look over Alisterre's shoulder to see what had made her so teary.
"Oh, darling, now why did you write that?" he asked sadly, hugging her around the shoulders.
"Well, the story has to have a happy ending, right?" she replied, smiling through her tears.
He sighed wistfully. "I suppose so."
