Lands Across Egypt
Egypt, Africa 105,000,000 BCE
Selissa walked through the lush forests of Egypt, her mother standing near the edge of the forests. Selissa would one day grow into the largest predator on the African continent, Spinosaurus. She would stand 18-20 feet tall at the highest tip of her “sail” and would grow to an amazing length of 50 feet long if she survived through adulthood.
At two years of age, Selissa was 3 meters long and less than 1 meter at the extension of her spines. Selissa’s pack consisted of an alpha leader, her mother Dalia. There were two males, one who was Dalia’s brother and Selissa’s younger brother. There were three females, two of which were Selissa’s siblings and one was Dalia’s sister. Selissa’s father Denmarrke, was killed a year earlier, after having a deadly confrontation between him and a Carcharodontosaurus. Dalia was around 23 years old, and she was over 50 feet long. If Dalia was lucky, she could survive another 20-25 years. But Selissa would not be so lucky.
This land was so green and lush, but for some reason, the Ouranosaurus herds stopped migrating to the beautiful forests of Egypt. Every year, large herds would migrate north from Nigeria because of the large quantities of plants and forests found in Egypt. Although Spinosaurs rarely hunted large prey, the Ouranosaurs were just too hard to miss. During the dry season, there were usually herds of Ouranosaurs scouring the landscapes, but for some reason, the herds stopped migrating. Dalia had sensed this weeks ago. She knew something was wrong, but what she did not know.
Selissa really had no idea what was going on, but she herself had never seen the Ouranosaur herds. This year would have been perfect for hunting. However, that year faded into denial; denial that the herds weren’t coming. Selissa’s pack was only feeding on carrion and fish, not enough to help a pack of seven large dinosaurs survive. Selissa was living in a land that was like paradise, but in reality, was turning into a land of ecological hell. Predators outnumbered the prey, and this would cause many problems with the Carcharodontosaurs, Bahariasaurs, Spinosaurs and the Deltadromeus.
Occasionally, there would be confrontations between predator and predator. These confrontations would often lead to violent and disastrous results. One time Selissa saw a confrontation between two male Carcharodontosaurs. They were fighting over a carcass. One had his left thigh torn open, while the other Carcharodontosaur’s intestines were spilling out onto the ground while he was still alive. This is what worried Dalia.
She didn’t want her pack to fall apart because of these frequent famines. Dalia’s instincts were driving her crazy. Should she stay or should she go? Where would they go? Were there really lands across Egypt?
