Romans

The mountain up north

The coast is at bay

The slaves hard at work

With nothing to say

About life as a whole,

Education or shame

But we learn it all

And it’s all just the same

As it was in old times

With the thieves and the rich,

The good and the poor,

And the teachers who bitch

About lack of decline

In intelligence noted

While children (the students)

Learn dead people quoted

In times that were ‘rougher’

(Comparatively sane!)

And all of it now

Seems rather inane

Because nothing has changed:

The birds are still singing,

The bitches still moaning,

Cell phones still ringing,

The noise is non-stopping,

The lights are still flashing,

Ignorance rising,

The rich are still cashing

In on the chaos

And living in bliss

While teens are on drugs

To ‘escape all of this’

‘Cause life is unbearable

(Oh, come on! You know it!)

So why not just end it?

(Not pause it, or slow it)

The Romans, they knew it

How clever they were

To anger Vesuvius

And kill all of her

People below

In the town of Pompeii

For never again

Must they face longer days

Of sadness and pressure,

The loneliness seeded

From anger and hatred

(They’re really not needed)

So do what you will

And think how you may

But you will find it all

Just redundant one day

For when the day comes

And the world’s at an end

All that you’ll need

Is me,

I’m your friend.
