He did not wish to leave her again. Even as his legs moved his heart stayed wrapped around her pale golden finger and being cracked every time a sob or a curse left her lips. He heard her wails and moans far after he was out of hearing range. This was necessary. He could not put her into anymore danger than he already had.

He would bring to her their daughter and lay her upon the crook of her porcelain arm, and she would smile up at him as if he were the moon and stars forgiving him for at least some of his past transgressions. When he closed his eyes he could feel the gentle aura of his daughter. He had always had a talent for souls for that was the source of a dark wizard’s power and his daughter being of his own flesh and blood, and so young called to him with urgent cries. Adam would have known the second his children had come into the world were not his mind clouded with the heavy shroud of darkness that served as his blindfold. The sick cloth of love that was the only emotion a thing so twisted as his father could bring.

There was only one thing that saved him from the darkness. It was surprising that not even his mate, the extension of his soul, could not save him. he had found redemption in the form of his mother that with subtle deception had urge him drink a potion that saved him from wicked’s grasp. In the end there was only one way to save his ever decaying soul, and that was to store it in an outer vessel. The woman had woven from him his soul with her own tears and in the night it had crystallized into gold. As lady Constantinople slept the golden string of his immortality wove itself around her and in her lay forever hidden in her bosom heart. In the morning he had awoken renewed, but still had not the courage to save him. It had taken his mother’s hand again, along with his mate, to completely save him from himself. Sir Lykogus had been following him for months. He stalked him for months and he seemed the only one he could trust with her.

“I can’t believe you did not leave your mate with me. How long have you known this guy?” Alexander climbed down a tree to face his best friend. He had done many things in the last few months he did not approve of, but he still followed him intent on making sure he did not do anything stupid.

“Take of that ridiculous disguise bastard!” he gave him a half smirk and suddenly the elf king stood before him. “How long have you known?”

“The second I saw you all those years ago. I specialize in souls and your soul does not have the aura of a demon. Where is that imp David? You have been spending and awful long time away from him.”

“I like to have someone to keep an eye on your father for me.” He winked at him his sapphire eyes filled with brilliance.

“You have been pretending to be trying to kill me; you have tried to stop my mating. What is wrong with you? What ails your judgment?”

“They say she shall take the throne and bring your father to his knees. How can I let her do something that has always been my task, my mission? He killed my father!”

“Enough! I have let you stay in disguise in my house, even welcoming you into my circle of friends. I have even allowed you to keep up this charade with my wife so you could carry out your pitiful attempts to stop her from a destiny that will probably not even come about. Leave this alone now!”

“I will stop, but you must promise me that I shall make the killing blow! Promise! I’ll let you sick the girl on you father”

“If I am there for the death of my father, may god save his soul, I shall let you kill him, but I seriously doubt will bring down that monstrosity. But why are you here?”

“Firstly I am saddened that you would leave your mate with that dog and not me. I was the one who saved her from you after all.”

“I don’t remember that.” He interrupted.

“That tends to happen when you are brainwashed by…”

“I do, however remember you trying to kill me though!”

“I had no intention of doing it and you know it!” the elf had turned red now. He was definitely irritated. “You didn’t have to stab me!”

“You didn’t have to scare my mate! And besides you are lucky I didn’t kill you, you forget I know how.”

“Yeah I know how to kill you as well… don’t lay that card on me.”

“Well show your loyalty.”

“Gladly.” And at that he threw something at him. The prince easily caught it. Whatever he had thrown him it had been wrapped in a silver cloth and stained with dried blood. He pulled at it unwrapping it as if it were a present of breakable glace. After an overly exaggerated period of time the head of a woman came to view. She was old her eyes staring off at the terror that would be her undoing, forever left to look upon her own fear.

“What is this?” His tone was flat almost bored. “Nice cut by the way, clean. She did not know what was coming to her.”

“Yes well… she is one of the priestesses that looked after your pup. She is beautiful, like the air. She called to me with her cries.” He looked upon him now with a look the prince had only seen him give him a look of love. “I have always loved you. I was jealous of your woman.” Adam was upon him now holding him by his collar. He would be choking him… if he had to breathe.

“What have you done to her!?”

“Nothing. I would never do anything to her. She is my mate. Will be anyways.” Adam untangled his fingers from the soft linen of the elf’s shirt.

“Stay away from her until she is old enough. If you do anything to my child…” he let the threat hang in the air like and ominous cloud. It was in the elf’s best interest to follow instructions. “Where is she?”

“Here” he went into the bushed and pulled out a squabbling bundle. She was wrapped in pink her little legs kicking out. He was quick about it grabbing her from his arms as if he was about to crack her head open. “Stay to the trees, and hide yourself. I do not want any predator coming near my family.”

“You have no right to tell me what to do.”

“But you will do it anyways.”

“And how do you know that? I am a king you are only a prince. I am centuries old you are a pup compared to me.”

“Easy, you love me better than yourself and you would protect your mate t all costs.” The elf scowled but did as he was told, hiding himself within the shadows. The child in his arms had the same raven locks as his sister. She had golden eyes like a wolf. They were just like her grandmother’s. Her ears were pointed, but her nails unlike her brother’s were as blunt as a human's. He couldn’t held but kiss her head cradling her softly. What a beautiful child she was. Immediately she stopped crying, as she felt safe in he father’s arms. He began his trek back down the road at a much slower pace than he had begun. There was calmness in the moment of bonding. The gentle breath of the little girl calmed him, and before he knew it he was back in their camp.

Constantinople wasted no time in running to him; the tears she had shed had not yet dried on her cheeks.

“I thought you would be gone longer! I am sorry I thought you were going forever.”

“Never again my love. I know I am not the most dependable man but… I will always come back to you.”

She pulled away wiping her tears. “Is that my daughter? Her voice was low almost timid.

“Yes” he handed her the babe taking the other from her arm. She looked down upon her with a small sincere smile, and the same feeling of serene filled her. “She seems a calm child” she noticed.

“I have decided to name her Serenity.” Adam uttered stroking her soft head. She suddenly woke up looking at her brother and giggled. The boy looked at his sister in an aloof smile, but it did not last long and he covered his mouth to hide his smile.

“Demon children know things at a very young age.” He informed her handing her the other child.

“Where are we going now?”

“I was going to leave you with the werewolves and go get our daughter but somebody helped me and it did not take long. I still think that is the best place for you at the moment you will be safe. I will go with you. We need to lye low for a while.
