A/N : I'm so sorry for almost dropping this story! Truthfully, I wanted to drop it but afterm reading it again, I guess I also wanted to know who she will pick... so, here goes! Hope you guys still read this after a very long no update period (more than a year!).
I can't believe I'm back here after what happened over the weekend.
I was walking to my first class for today, physics. I haven't heard from Jesse nor Evan after what happened. Not that I want to anyway...
“Lyle, wait up!” Jess shouted from behind me.
“You're quite late today.”
“Woke up late. So, have you decided?”
“What's to decide? Evan doesn't like me like me, he likes you remember?”
Jess shove the idea aside, “So it's Jesse then?”
“No... I don't really know.”
“So does that mean you still like Evan?”
“Come on Jess!” And the bell rang.
While the teacher was scribbling moment formulas on the board, I was scribbling my thoughts away on the page of my notebook unknowingly. At the end of the class, I look at my notebook and what I found there wasn't my notes but...
“Lyle...” I saw Jess staring at my notebook with shock and possibly disbelief. I quickly slammed my hands down on the page to cover it.
“This is... nothing. They're just um... ideas!”
“Ideas for what?”
“For... a fiction! I want to try writing one to forget what's happening.”
“Lyle,” she removed my hand from the page. “Don't lie to me.”
Once again, I saw what was all over the page... ESG or Evan Spencer Gallagher. I was so ashamed of it that I wanted to tear it out and burn it right away.
“You're still not over him...”
“I'm sorry Jess...”
Jess took the honor of tearing it out, shredding it and throwing it away. She handed me her notebook, “Here, copy my notes.”
“Thanks.”
When I was organizing my stuff in my locker between classes, Jess went ahead to the orchestra room because she needed to get her flute before the next class. “I'm afraid someone might use it,” she said.
“Carlyle.” I nearly jump when I heard the voice behind me. I faced him and found Evan.
“Look, before you say anything, just hear me out, ok?”
I merely nodded.
“Don't get me wrong. I didn't want to get into a fight, specially in someone else's party.”
“Specially if it is Jess'.”
“Yes. Anyway, I wouldn't do that if I know that Jesse means no harm.”
“Jesse means no harm. He's just... we used to be dating.” Not!
“Oh, I didn't know that.” Of course you don't.
“Is that all?”
“I just want you to know that I'm sorry.” And he started to walk away. I really wanted to hear more but I just stood there.
Lunch time came and I was waiting for Jess to purchase her meal. Jesse looked at me from their table and showed me a smile and I smiled back. Maybe he didn't remember what happened the other night. I really don't know what I feel towards Jesse right now. I know that he is hot! But I also know the fact that he is gay and has a personality disorder. But I really don't know what...
“Sorry, tough crowd today!”
“It's ok, let's eat.”
Kathryn's POV
Hi, it's me, Kathryn Jessica Green. Call me Jess! I'm outside the emergency room right now, trying to keep calm but am actually panicing. I am trying not to cry but all my tears are flowing right out.
“Ms. Green, where are her parents?”
“Mrs. Cruz is coming right over.”
“Can you tell us what happened?”
“We were walking home from school and then a truck went out of control and banged onto the sidewalk. I tried to save her, but I couldn't reach her. The truck banged right to her...”
“What happened Jess? Is she ok? Where is she?” Mrs. Cruz rushed into the hospital.
“Mrs. Cruz! I...”
She faced the nurse and it was the first time I saw her like this. She was hysterical.
“Tell me the truth! Where's my baby? What happened to her?”
“Mrs. Cruz...” The response of the nurse struck me. It felt like they were hiding something from me. Something that I should know, something about my friend.
The nurse led Janet into the room and told me to stay where I was. I was afraid it was bad news. I can feel it. I called Evan and Jesse over because I knew Lyle would like to see them.
Mrs. Cruz went out of the emergency room looking like life has been drained out of her.
“Mrs. Cruz...”
Evan and Jesse came at the same time. “What happened?”
The nurse let the three of us in to see Lyle. I felt a little bad leaving Mrs. Cruz outside, alone. She needs to be with someone right now but I also wanted to see Lyle. I walked in and saw Lyle's petite body lying at the far end of the room.
“Jess, Evan, Jesse.” She was weak, she could barely talk.
“Shh... save your strength. You need it.”
“Thank you Jess, for everything.”
“It's ok, it's ok... Everything's going to be fine.”
“Jesse, thank you for trusting me.”
He simply nodded.
“Evan...” Evan took her hand and sat beside her.
“I'm here Carlyle.”
“I love...”
Evan put her hand down and stood up. “Jess...” I look up at him and was afraid to hear what he has to say.
“She's gone.”
And everything just went black. I don't know what happened but I just lost my best friend.
Carlyle's POV
“Welcome.” A young handsome man told me.
I felt a little light headed.
“I'm Xander, I have been here for awhile.”
“I'm...”
“You're Carlyle Brittany Cruz.”
“How did you know?”
“My brother tells me a lot of things. You know him.”
“Who is he?”
“Evan Gallagher.”
“Where am I? And where is he?”
“You're up here, and he's down there.”
“Oh... I died.”
“You know what?”
“Huh?”
“Evan likes you, a lot. He even said that you're special and he wants to be with you.”
“Not true, he likes Jess.”
“Listen to him...” He looked out a window-like thing. It was cloudy but I could see Evan.
“I couldn't hear anything.”
“Listen more closely.” Then he pushed me into a cloudy space and then there was darkness...
