SHAKEN AND TONGUE TIED

Don't look back to the times before
two younger people wanting more
kicking down hearts and turning heads
and unprepared for the best of the bed
now I'm following this voice
that let's me know that it's my choice
to turn away or make it new
so I choose to follow you

So many night I've huddled alone
chipping at this wall of bone
through the sludge of disbelief
to the emerald underneath
the gem I hid behind our love
thought I was made of stronger stuff
blown back by what lay beneath
as the defensive wall was breeched

So on the way back to the ground
I was distracted by the sound
of this shattering glass
and baby, I can't feel you with these hands
you confiscate my mind
leave me shaken and tongue tied
I won't trust my heart to any other ride
let this rubble be my bride
