Abstract Art

I go to an art gallery, four bucks entry for me,

and when I look around, what do I see?

Abstract statues, weird blobs of clay,

and I have no clue what they’re trying to say.

But this one piece, I am so confused

as to what philosophical idea the artist used.

This straight wooden structure, lines and all,

vertical and horizontal, standing so tall.

I stand right in front of it, as it mocks me so,

“Stupid person, what knowledge of art do you know?”

I’m fed up, artists are way too complex,

shaping lots of stuff into unrecognizable objects.

Okay, so I don’t know art, so sue me because

I couldn’t figure out the meaning of this art was.

And this piece, oh this piece, with its snobbishness!

After this I’m ditching art for theatre no less.

My mind is vanishing into “unimaginative” vapour,

why did artists have to stop painting on paper?

An employee of the art gallery has seen my frown,

“Miss,” he says, “you look tired. Please sit down.”

He points to the art piece, as if I should sit on it.

Boy, if the artist heard this, they’d have a fit!

I told him it was rude, but he said, “I don’t care,

please, why don’t you sit down? It’s only a chair.”
