A/N: Okay, so I was ticked. I seriously was. And I was stressing out about the fact that somepeople wanted “Merry Christmas” changed to “Happy Holidays”. I’m a Christian, but seriously, it kinda seems like that some people are bashing Christianity. Maybe I’m biased. Probably the wrong use of the word “biased”, but do I look like I give a care? LOL. Anyhow, it’s just the name of a holiday, or our little holiday, like Hanukkah. It’s not like we’re trying to impose our “religion” on anyone else or anything just by using that name. And really, it seems that at Christmastime, it gets really tense around our household. Maybe it’s just me, but hey, whatever, right? Sorry about the rant. It’s kinda sad when the length of the Author’s Note is as long or longer than the actual poem. Meh. The title? Go look up the word “bane”. Personally, it’s a nice touch, I think, if not a little long.

Deck the Halls with Boughs of Baneberry

It’s that time of year again

When the stockings come out and the lights are strung

Eggnog, turkey, cocoa, cookies

Popcorn on the string

For the birds, for the trees

But what’s going on?

What’s wrong, wrong?

Behind the scenes when you look

And it’s all a mess, just a mess

The stress and tension that you don’t see

When we’re all in our Christmas best

In the churches singing carols

And Christmas songs of good cheer!

Throw out the figgy pudding

He’s at her throat again

And she’s at his

What holiday is this?

Why? What is this madness?

Where…is the joy?

This happiness I’m supposed to know

The tension’s so thick that I can’t breathe

And now, strife even over the name

Of this holiday

Why change it? Go attack someone else

And leave Christmas for ME
