Oceanic Night
It surpassed everything
that evening,
The rise and fall of
the fading sun
On the water's
coursing, fraying edge.
The shore line was held
forever distant,
Though our capsule
seemed to yearn
For the touch of it's
rocky base.
Sails splayed out
against the wind,
Pushing us forward as
light faded
And the orb of moon
rose high
Above the trees and
petty stars,
Our vessel's pounding
body
Smacked at the rough,
cruel stone
The sea had become
beneath us.
Beautiful was the
oncoming darkness
Which held a sense of
lush pride
At making our
persistent way
On such stormy breaks
of night.
