Still

I sit with the engine idling
Knowing I should hurry up
and go
But my legs will not move
My hands lie immobile on
the steering wheel
The rain continues to pour
Drops pounding on the glass
soothing
A distant streetlight casts
a soft yellow glow
Watching the water seep
down, nothing to hold it back
Oozing over the dashboard
Down the seats
Across my hands, still unmoving
I dare not move for fear of
breaking this unreality
shattering this peace
Of having this stolen moment
stolen back
I dare not move lest time will
continue to flow on
Without the memory of
having stopped once
for me
