St John’s Shorts

Basically a ‘short’ is my term for any poem/ story/ fic that is much shorter than what I would usually write, and I am going to York St John’s University College, therefore… we have the name! Anyway, these are all poems that I wrote in my first year at York St John (mostly in my second term) and put on the board outside my room.

1.
The problem with sleep
Is that it doesn’t come
When you want it to
But does when you don’t

2.
If there’s something wrong
Don’t admit it
Until it’s too late
And you’ll find more people
Care

Thunderous applause
From an unseen
Audience

Poetry is the art
Of confusing people
With culture

5.
The good thing about
People not listening when you speak
Is knowing that no one
Is going to contradict you

6.
What I really miss
If the ability to find
Something to do;
Someone to talk to

7.
After being ill for some time
It’s easy to forget
How nice it is to breathe in
Even stale morning air.

Do not piss off the authors, for they are powerful
And will write you out of the next book

Don’t diss my life
Just ‘cos it’s way cooler than yours

You can hope for any things
You can be who you choose
As long as you contradict
Everything that you really are

Never mock the Gods within their hearing
They might not have a good sense of humour

In a worlds filled with low self-esteem
It’s hard to remember what love means

Life is only temporary;
Enjoy it while you can
Enjoy with other people;
Between a woman and a man

Having a best friend
Is like have a good meal
You don’t realise just
How good it is
Until you have it again

The same words that mean so much at times
Can mean so little at others.

In a world of little justice
How do we teach fairness?

My view is if you can't beat it
Who cares?

Everyone needs somewhere
Somewhere to rest
Somewhere that’s warm
Somewhere they can call
Their own

If you do something wrong
And try to hide from it
You learn nothing
And do it wrong again

The horn is to aware others of your presence
Not to use when you think something
Has been done wrong

My theory in life is
If you are it
Or were it
You can make fun
Of it.

My last day in uni
Was something to celebrate
And so we did
And it was great!
