Stipulations of Marriage
With this ring I give away
My heart and soul to you today,
And with it comes no strings or ties
Except to always be by my side,
To love me every day and night,
Do whatever I think is right,
Wash my clothes, keep my home,
Never let me feel alone,
Be with me through bad or good,
Look after me the way you should,
Give me every time of day,
Listen to every word I say,
Never tell me that I’m wrong,
Write and sing me a top love song,
Do for me my every deed,
And pay for everything I need.
That’s all I ask on this, our day,
When I give my heart, with this ring, away.

Written on a very cold day when waiting for a taxi, came in a sudden burst of inspiration and with no prior thought. While I am not quite this cynical about marriage, it comes quite close. Oh, and as a point of note, this was being written on the morning of my new boyfriend’s first visit to our house!
