CAN WE TRY THAT SCENE AGAIN?

I light a cigarette
as I watch you drive away
this must be what it feels like
to watch your soul escape
to lose your home to a fire
to lose your heart to a liar
to grow slowly dead
welcome back to the dead

Can we try that scene again?
Before the headlights go dim
before the dead air starts creeping
and paranoia steps in

Can we try that scene again?
Where I kiss you in the rain
and you don't mind at all
that's my favorite scene

These melancholy moments
grow more and more entwined
with the drastic, manic moments
that circle and circle my mind

Can we try that scene again?
When I fumbled my way inside
and all God's restless children
gently stepped aside
