Wolf Whistle

I watch with prowling eyes

As each day, a part of me dies

I see your movements: precise, intentioned

And try my best to mimic your perfection

-

Ravage ritual, a savage beast

Forever burdened, forever triste

You left me alone, my instincts in control

I needed a love with which to ensoul

-

You may hear the wolves' lament

But by nature, I'm resilient

I'll gather myself; I'll lick my wounds

And then I'll heal, as with nature communed

-

And so I'll hunt on, finding the one

That will not leave when she's done

Using me for what I've got

And hating me for what I'm not

-

In my howl you'll hear a dead note

This work of man will come to nought

As the world turns into the future

Will you remember…

-

The lone wolf you left behind…
