Fallen Star 1
By: Lindsey Little
It was childish infatuation that kept her from giving up. They were friends as a child and she was smitten with him. She recounted telling him a few times before but she was unsure of whether or not he still knew it. Star had been in love with Alex ever since she could remember and her heart still throbbed for him. Star kept all of her thoughts and fantasies tucked away deep in the back of her mind.
Now they were together and finally alone. Star could feel butterflies flutter around in her stomach. She wanted to tell Alex all of her feelings, all of what she thought about him but deep down she was afraid to. Star knew that Alex didn’t return these feelings back to her. She sighed and held a ring in her hand.
“Alex, you know that I’ve always been smitten with you. I could spend the rest of my life telling you how much I love you. Instead, I want you to take this ring. I want to do everything with you, I want to grow old with you.” As she opened her eyes, she noticed that Alex’s eyes weren’t on hers. She bit her bottom lip. She brought her arms around his neck and brought her lips to his.
Like a frightened animal, Alex jumped and struggled with all he could. He was looking at some blonde girl behind Star when she was blabbing and all of the sudden, she kissed him. He backed up, dropping her into a mud puddle and he ran over to where the blonde girl was.
Star fell into the mud, her ring falling from her hands and into the mud. Tears ran down her face. This was the reason why she would have given up if it weren’t for the fact that she was in love with Alex. She grabbed her ring that was in the mud puddle as the bell for her next class began with tears streaming down her face and without cleaning up.
She entered biology class with black mascara tears cascading down her cheeks. “Star, what happened?” The teacher, asked as he grabbed a first aid kit. Star hadn’t noticed it until she looked down. She had a huge gash in her knew. Alex looked at Star with concerned eyes. Star blushed and smiled back at him.
“I just fell, that was all…” Star said as she wiped her wound down with some antibacterial wipes in the kit.
“Out of the sky.” Someone remarked in the classroom that made Star’s face turn even redder. All of the students in the classroom looked over at star, some snickered, and some looked at her wound with sympathy.
A note was passed around the room. It was in Alex’s handwriting. Star felt happy. She unfolded the carefully folded note and began to read: How are you doing, sweet thing? She clicked her pen when she heard a whisper. She turned around to see Alex, motioning for her to pass the note up to the same blonde girl in front of her.
Feeling embarrassed and more ashamed than before, she passed the note up to the blonde girl in front of her and put her head down, a signal to let her and everyone else in the class know that she wasn’t passing any more notes.
