Not my best work I feel, but I loved the opening lines of this piece. More of a philosophical exploration of a similar theme to some of my other pieces. I have to keep giving my friends here something to read.

There are those who seek life
Amidst tombstones and gravedust
Some seek it in the flesh
Amidst drips of sweat
In the sweet taste of blood
Some seek it in hate
In the throws of violence
And fits of mindless rage
Some seek it in the quiet places
In the whispers between raindrops
And the cold, deep blue ocean of despair and regret
Life exists in these places
But is corroded and twisted
Coagulated blood
Does not bring life
But rather it chokes and corrupts
Strangling life away into death
Light into darkness
Dark lives blot out the light
Clotting societies arteries with
Sorrow
Hate
Despair
Lust
Vengeance
Pain
Death
Because the light has faded away
So distant and surrounded by
An ocean of darkness
Black and a million shades of gray
So we float
In the slick embrace of
Comfortable, habitual, perpetual
Darkness
Thinking the light is so far away
But our eyes clouded over long ago
So because of our numbed souls and darkened eyes
It remains out of reach
But within our grasp
And the darkness laughs silently all around us
