This t a u n t i n g masquerade

She closed her eyes and
l a u n c h e d herself in;
fame, glitz, glory,
one thousand passing vapors,
and insubstantial words.

Looks good, sounds good, the motto of her life.
Who cares if you could plunge in
and come out p.e.r.f.e.c.t.l.y. dry?

She’d stop and quote some meaning into it,
but she’s too busy shaking hands;
(celebratory,
the next big thing).

Not to worry.

She established another metaphor, all smudge and smoke and meaning(less) ice.
There is no direct translation,
(these words do not connect).

What a surprise!

It’s not as hard as it looks, say hello to the cheat codes;
(the author’s notes always were the easiest part).
—now all she needs is some filler.

(sell out.)

An--written as a result of some rather painful self-reflection. Decided to go easy on the formatting so that the words could (hopefully) speak for themselves.
