The two poles of existence

Exerting their draws

On the unsuspecting many

Changing their lives forever

-

Trying to live

Simple, happy, relaxed

Trying to free myself

From the demands of life

Organized and charted,

Alphabetized and ordered

-

But drawn by greater forces

Well beyond one’s own control

Pulled, pushed and swayed

By the two poles of existence

-

Obligation pushes, what we must

Fear the consequences

For the wrath of others

Could descend upon those who betray

-

Need pulls, a desire that

May overwhelm, more powerful still,

Then the forces of others

For betraying oneself,

Can destroy all that you cling to

-

And through this turmoil

Holding strong the breeze and gale

The strong strive on

The meek drift along

Hoping for a better tomorrow

-

And it all comes crashing down
