Feel, feel, I say - feel for all you are worth, and even if it half kills you, for that is the
only way to live, especially to live at this terrible pressure...
(azar nafisi)

as i lay last night

The waves are breaking, beating slow;
my heart is pounding deep within;
I love and cry, despair, despise,
am angry, jealous, high, alive.
My thumping chest and twisted form
are writhing in an empty bed,
are clutching pillows, watching storms
and lightning flash across the sky.
The pressing deep and heavy weight,
potential found and pretty waste,
the whispers of live on! live on!,
the screams that I cannot stay long.
The foot that runs so tensely down
the leg and to the ankle ‘low,
the arching back, the easy lie:
a nightmare and a dream.
