Soft Sunlight

Sunshine gently pooling at my feet

Some small reassurance

But in the corner darkness gathers

White wings stained red with blood

Yet as I stand by my window

And look out to the fields beyond

Warmth pierces and prevails

As long as the sun still shines

Time watching with hungry eyes

Laughing as I still hope

Feathers caress the side of my face

The color hidden from view

Praying that Time will die

Sun continues to sink

White wings stirring within me

The feathers still on my cheek

Turning to see the one who reaches

And see only a wall

Was the kindness in my mind

Or did my friend have to leave

Darkness settles on my brow

A single tear escapes

But through the night I am numb

Until warmth comes again

With the touch of a feather
