You feel a presence lurking,

Just beyond the light.

Running down an alley,

Oh so late at night.

Your legs, they just move faster,

Until you’re out of harm,

But the presence is speeding up now,

Making no attempt at charm.

You chance a glance behind you,

The shadow’s drawing near.

Faster, faster, you say, your heart is filled with fear.

Your feet are almost flying now,

You’re scared beyond belief

And now you’re thinking ‘what to do?

Does he hold a knife within a sheath?

You don’t know and on you run,

Never looking back,

For you feel a lurking presence

who might take your head with one whack.

The sun is drawing near

And you can see the light,

And you hum away your fear

With a song of a happy life.

But a sound behind you makes

The fear return in force

And you whirl around

To hear a rough, coarce voice

Say ‘stop running

Stop running now.’

You stop with sheer terror

And see a glint of light.

And you know your life has ended

On that cold and lonely night…
