"Riley Richards! Are you really going to stand there and tell me that Ryan has no feelings whatsoever for you?"
Yep, that right there is my best friend Sarah Connors. We've known each other since pre-K when I accidentally (or maybe not- hey! She stole my markers…) locked her in the closet for three hours. Ok, so maybe that wasn't the brightest idea. Especially since she pushed me off the swings the next day and gave me a huge wedgie while I was still down with my face in the woodchips. However, it was only a matter of time until we realized guys were our enemies, and not each other. And since then we've been best friends, trying to rid the world of guys.
Well, fine, only maybe about half the time. The other half was me trying to distract Sarah from her very many, MANY, admirers. Yep, that's right. My best friend is an official 'hottie' among the guys. Ugh, that ho. Just kidding, she's not a slut like most girls are in our junior class. Luckily.
I shook my head and answered her with a snort. "Seriously Sarah, should I start laughing now or after I list all the ways he's made my life a living hell? First off, he practically lives in my house, yet he feels the need to insult me every chance he gets. In first grade, he put my finger in water while he was supposed to be in Derek's room and made me pee all over my favorite Power Rangers' bed sheets. In third grade, he tied me up, painted my whole body with green paint, and drew all over my face with a Sharpie just so that I looked like a leprechaun! Must I go on, or do you finally get the picture?"
Unfortunately, in my 'Ryan Is The Bane Of My Existence' rant, I didn't notice him approaching behind me, which poo for me, didn't give me enough time to outrun him. "Well, well, well... how are my two favorite ladies doing today?"
I slowly turned around while gritting my teeth and greeted him with my best scowl. "Why won't you ever die and leave me at peace?"
He chuckled then shot me his 'famous grin,' which supposedly makes all girls within a two feet radius start to drool. I think it just makes him look like a duck. Then again, I am bias, on account of the fact that I HATE HIM. "Aww, Riley baby, you're breaking my heart. How can you deny the fact that you love me? I mean, you did just spend the past two minutes reminiscing on all of our good times together."
"Don't make me attack you in front of all these people. And stop with that stupid grin. It makes your face resemble your ass."
"Wow Riley, I didn't know you spent that much time checking out my ass. Are you sure you don't have any feelings you'd like to admit to me?"
I narrowed my eyes and glared at him grumpily. Ok, so maybe I have checked out his ass once or twice. You can't blame me. Despite all the insults I dished out at him, he's pretty damn hot, not that I'd ever admit that to him. And well, he is 6'0", has a messy mop of dark brown hair, and has piercing, bright green eyes, so I guess if you were to force it out of me, he does have that whole "tall, dark, and handsome" look going on. But you're never gonna hear that come out of my mouth again, so let's move on.
Anyway, Sarah noticed my narrowed eyes and pulled me away from him before I could answer. I walked away quickly, grumbling to myself, while Sarah turned around and shouted a hasty goodbye to him.
"Bye, bye Riley! I'll be sure to stop by later tonight to keep you company!" He shouted at my retreating back, in an arrogant voice.
So really, you can't blame me if I flipped him off. Twice.
It was later that evening when I was enjoying myself in front of the TV, when I noticed that my little tyke of a brother hadn't come over to annoy me at all. I groaned to myself, rubbing my face, and mumbled 'oh god, oh god, oh god' under my breath.
I took a deep breath and screamed up the stairs, "Derek! Did you pick Brandon up from his nursery school?"
I had barely finished my sentence when I heard his loud, pounding footsteps racing down the stairs. "Um, Riley…shit," he mumbled.
"How could you forget your little brother at nursery school? I told you to pick him up before," I screamed at him as we ran to the front door and hurriedly tried to put on our shoes.
"I know that! I just wanted to take a quick nap before I went off to work for the rest of the night."
I took a deep breath as I pulled on my second sneaker, and casually said, "You do know that mom and dad are gonna kill you when they find out about this. Well, you know, unless, you do something for-"
I didn't need to turn around to see the horror on his face, as he interrupted me and blurted out, "You're blackmailing me?! You bit-"
Too bad I didn't let him finish his sentence as I ran out the door and straight into the arms of the one and only Ryan Evans.
His arm quickly grabbed hold of my waist before I ran into him. "Geez, Riley! Where are you rushing off too? And how many more members of the Richards' family am I gonna have to hold?"
I was confused at first, until I looked over and saw my baby brother Brandon in his other arm. I breathed a sigh of relief and quickly pulled them off to the side of my porch, as I saw Derek quickly run out of the house and down the driveway. He passed Ryan's car with a look of confusion, but continued running down the road until he turned around and saw all of us standing there, baby and all.
He stopped suddenly and screamed, "Damn it Riley! Why didn't you tell me Brandon was back? I'm gonna kill you!"
I laughed and walked into the house, all the while asking myself why my brother was such a doofus. Ryan chuckled as well and we settled ourselves down on the couch, with Brandon in between us.
"So how did you end up with Brandon?" I reluctantly asked Ryan.
He smirked and replied, "Well I was driving passed the nursery school when I saw a little somebody playing in the sandbox with a teacher watching over him. Can you take a guess who that somebody was?"
"Shut it," I grumbled as I turned my attention back to the TV.
Ten minutes later, we heard Derek run out the door soon after, all the while shouting, "I'm going to work now! Be back late. Ryan, watch them!"
The devil, also known as Ryan, turned to me with his grin in place. "Well, Riley, I guess it's just you and me tonight. What could we possibly do to occupy ourselves?"
I scowled to myself, determined to ignore him for the rest of the night. Too bad he didn't have the same idea in mind. Crap.
AN: Ok, so this is my first attempt at writing fiction. Inspiration hit me at about 3:00am last night and this is what I got before I fell asleep at the keyboard. Not kidding. Anyway, review and let me know what you think about this. I'm not sure if I want to continue or not. Also, I'm sorry if it may be similar to any other stories, but I love cliches and all that romance junk. Bye!
