Ancient Heart Form

19 May 2007
Prague, Czech Republic

Thou, heart's eternal object of desire,
For perfect are lithe curves that form Thy shape,
Wherever men have carved woman's beauty,
In rock, antler, ivory or marble,

From primitive to Modiglianni,
In cave or cliff or church or ziggurat,
For Greek, Chinese, or Hindu artisans,
In places scented with fragrant incense,

Where candles or oil lamps lit soul's prayers,
Fervently wishing for fertility,
There Thy naked body has been worshipped,
Aphrodite or Khali or Ishtar,

Birth & Death, Body & Soul in cycles,
Occurring, Recurring, Coruscating,
In the endless sway of moon's tidal flows,
Rising and falling that all men ride home,

Past rocky breakwaters that hold back storms,
Through channels of perilous currents strong,
Till love's caress & warm embrace & hearth,
Fulfill in syzygy heart's destiny.
