Sleeping Beauty

I was seven.

I don't even remember her anymore. I miss her.

I was seven.

Seven years together, no more. Every Monday, an Eskimo pie. Puzzles, books, Little Red Riding Hood, and Go! Fish.

I was seven.

Abbey and Alissa, Jeffrey and Daniel. I knew her best. But just not well enough.

I was seven.

The four of us, seven, five and a half, four, and four. We spent hours in her playroom for seven nights straight, watching Sleeping Beauty. No more hugs or Eskimo hugs, butterfly kisses or me and 'Lissa washing the Mah Jong tiles.

I was seven.

Sleeping Beauty is death; my Grammy is gone forever, not coming back a hundred years later like in the movie.

I was seven.

I was seven when my grandmother died.

I was seven.

I was seven.


Written for remedial English, but also because I thought it was a good idea. And yes, it's true. My mom, aunt, and cousin Alissa cried reading it, and I sobbed as I wrote it out.
