My Rivers
©Holly Charlton

I miss the way I used to be able to miss you
It all has just not been the same
You are gone now, lost as surely as the sun at the end of the day
However unlike that biggest, brightest star
You have made it clear as the sea
That you will not be returning
And the moon shall be my witness
As my heart shatters like an ice sculpture that has slipped from its podium
While your message has been clear
And I understand to any being's full capacity
My mind lurks and dwells in confusion, disbelief; fog over a lake,
I stumble, cannot walk, cannot think, cannot come to grasp
Pure rivers shed from my eyes, each tiny transparent orb that rolls down my cheek
Each one that beads on my chin and falls such as dew knocked from a leaf
My rivers will whittle away another canyon
Cutting a course that is due to give no consideration
Consideration that he should have had
As he strode away.
