When paper wings fly above
The upturned head of a child,
Those solemn eyes follow with love,
Cloudy with dream dust.
The starlit pools of endless wonder
Follow the sky, the river of light
On which those paper wings dip up and
under
And silently glide and sparkle and
shine
That other-world where one can float
That world of dreams, of innocence
Those eyes and wings shall gladly go
Within to rest and thrive
Those paper wings trail threads
Of hope and of love, of childhood
And those solemn eyes follow to tread
To forever and beyond, to storyland
Where the paper wings land is nowhere
And also everywhere, wherever the wind
may turn
And all the while, the world sings
clear;
The songs of laughing children fill the
air.
