Sympathy

To trust in another

Is to sob on your own

As soon as they leave

You are left but alone

With the world on your back

And a knife in your hand

Knowing the Earth

Won’t care if you stand

For what you believe

In all that you feel

‘Cause all of your thoughts

Can never be real

Once life takes its course

And love takes its fall

And all that is left

Is a number to call

To say that you’ve snapped

To warn all around

That ration is lost

Insanity: found

But you can’t stop

And you can’t face

All who oppose

With beauty and grace

And sickening sweetness

Forcing right through

The barrier there

Between me and you

Of lies and uncomfortable

Silence we speak

Torn down by anger

And making me weak

In the knees as I fall

In the heart as I cry

But I really don’t care

So, really, don’t die.
