THE TV SAID

Somewhere in the suburbs Mrs. Johnson locks her doors
Cause the T V said the evil’s just outside
She thinks there’s poison in the water
Madness in the food
Dan Rather used words she doesn’t understand

But she’s trying as hard as she can
She’s trying as hard as she can

She can’t understand why the world has changed
Why everyone drives so fast in every single lane
She doesn’t trust computers
She doesn’t trust the young
Cause the T V said that every single one of them has a gun

But she’s trying as hard as she can
She’s trying as hard as she can

She doesn’t like the bank
The malls too big and wide
They tore down the place she grew up
To build a Sam’s Club and a Best Buy

It’s been over a decade since her husband died
Since then the world seems to have left her behind
The kids are all gone, they have families of their own
So, with the T.V. She never has to be alone

Somewhere a light flashes across Mrs. Johnson’s eye
With T.V. she never has to go outside
