She Cries

Her name is Jezabel Pontkiv. She is twenty-two and Jewish. As a little girl, she dreamt, as all little girls do, of one day meeting her Prince Charming and living happily ever after.

She met Paul Munroe, a home-grown Canadian boy; instant love, they promised to someday marry.

Happily to be married with the man of her dreams, Jezabel thought her life was perfect, that she was finally living her childhood dream. Then the nightmare began.

They wanted her; Paul was safe. But her loved her, said it was his duty as a man. So a week before Christmas, on the first day of snow, he left. He promised to come home again, so they could continue their fairy tale, but he never did.

Sixty-five years later, Jezabel is now eighty-seven, and Paul still hasn’t returned home.

Every day that goes by, a part of her memory of him slowly dies. So it’s for this reason that every year as it snows, she cries.
