Controversy

I’m tired of lying

I’m sick of crying

I’m done pretending

I’m through contending

I’m quitting the race

I’m giving up chase

I’m lying to hide

What I’m screaming inside

Pick me out of the broken shards

The love you shattered with your smile

I can’t strive for something for so long

Then bury my weary heart in denial

I can’t pretend that I don’t care

That they said my love was wrong

I just wanted you to know

I’m through playing their old songs

And I wouldn’t give a damn what they say

If I had you standing next to me

I can stand up against their fight

Because your hand just felt so right

“If only things had turned out right…”

The lullaby I sing at night

Chanting “what ifs” to survive

my mantra barely keeping alive
