The Poker Floor Girl

Always a delight,
So personable, so sassy…so adorable.
Is it all some kind of fantastic act?
How do you do it?

Table by table you do your rounds,
But I don’t want the caffeine fix you offer.
I want you.
I want the taste of your lips,
The glimmer of your eyes,
The serenity in your smile.

I want, just once, to feel your frenzied heartbeat,
Confound your logic,
Overwhelm any hope of reason,
Make you feel as if life began just today.

…Yet I merely smile and request a Pepsi.
Nothing more.

It’s obvious you’re taken.
How could you not be taken?
All I’m left with is my silent, empty gaze,
And my apologies for being yet another in this long line of fools.
