Sunshine

She was the sort of person who loved deeply. Cared about everything. The sun always shone in her eyes. The flowers were always beautiful, as were the falling leaves, and glittering snow. There was a passion about her, and she was full. Of energy. Of life. She was like the sunshine. Warm. Bright. Cheerful.

-------------------

Friday, 7:15pm

She was late. It was the first time that she ever hadn't shown up for a date on time. Not only that, but she hadn't called and now wasn't answering her cell phone. He was worried, of course. They'd been dating long enough to be considered an item. And he'd worked all week. He just wanted to relax, not have to wonder where she was. Or why she wouldn't answer the damn phone. He gave it another ten minutes before he gave up and went home. He'd let her call him this time. She would do it eventually.

Saturday, 1:23pm

So, the matinée was a bust. Her best friend had managed to squeeze her in for the first time in months, and this was what happened. She didn't show. Best friends weren't supposed to do things like that. They were supposed to come when you planned things. It was hard to find time. That was all. Then again, most best friends would at least call to see where you are. This one waited five more minutes and left.

Saturday, 9:00pm

He hadn't waited around this time. He'd just left the restaurant. Gone to her house. Knocked, and when there had been no answer, grumbled and walked home. She was going to get an earful tomorrow.

Sunday, 11:26am

It was so inconvenient of her to not show up for mass. She was supposed to greet people at the door. Thank goodness there had been a man in the front pew who could cover for her. She just wouldn't be put on the list next week. Maybe she was sick... But even then, she really should have called. They decided to wait until she told them she wasn't well before they added her to the prayer list.

Monday, 7:20pm

Ten minutes late for work is a verbal reprimand. Twenty is a write up. If she wound up being a no show... Well, staff was short. She might not be terminated if the other girl didn't show up soon for her shift either.

Tuesday, 10:45am

She was found today, so they could all stop wondering. The note was read and carefully put away. It was definitely her handwriting.

Friday, 1:00pm

They saw her once more. She was not late this time, but no one spoke of that. They all just wondered why.

-------------------

She had been just like the sunshine. Warm. Bright. Loved at first. Then expected. Then only noticed... grumbled about... when not there. She was the sunshine. But time changes, and even the brightest days will eventually fall into shadow. She set one summer evening. When she realized it didn't matter. The world could go around without her.

Author's Note: Again, no worries, k? I've found that people who know me stress when I post these. This isn't directed toward or about anyone I know. I was in a VERY depressed mood a day or two ago, and this was the result. Fiction, dark though it is.

Anyway, thanks for reading. Please review.
