Title: Inevitability on the river flow

Clouded vision as the night drags on,

Morning approaches already…

Yesterday I stopped and I doubted,

and now my hand’s unsteady.

I don’t easily cut the strings to my heart

Nor do I offer my hand,

but nevertheless you’ve patiently found

a position I’d left unmanned.

You’re there now, despite my complaints,

and I’ve never had to do this before;

I must apologize for the inevitable –

I know I’ll slam the door.

You can’t get in, I know you know it,

You know it’s not worth it to try,

but there doesn’t seem to be much sense

in anything you reply.

I’ve tried to be kind, considerate,

so nothing could ever go wrong,

I wanted to keep you around, I thought,

I thought it was where you belonged –

but now, it’s clear, this isn’t your place,

you’ve got to get out while you can,

but now, there’s no turning back for you.

If only you’d fled, hid, or ran…

Now I’m lost, with another one manning

the oars of my life’s heavy boat,

Too many, you know, too much weight,

Sinking into the dark river-throat…
