Forest: Yo people. This is a short story based loosely off my life. It's slightly tweaked, in more ways than one.
Sasuke: Oh, and just to irritate me, she's decided to summon my brother as her other person.
Forest: PSSSH, not everything's about you, Sasy.
Itachi: Yeah brother, most things are about me.
Sasuke: YOU! UGH. JUST READ THE STORY.
Itachi: Don't mind him, he's PMS-ing. -runs from enraged Sasuke-
Forest: -stare- Um, ok, onward...
In those 21 years I went through enough to figure out my purpose in life at the tender age of 15. I’d only been alive for fifteen years, and who knew how much longer I’d live, but I knew what my purpose was. The sole reason for my existence on this cruel, dark world was to fight to protect the hearts, minds, souls, and lives of as many innocent people as I could and defend the rights of fighter dreamers such as myself. I was gifted at a young age with the power of Empathy, the ability to read people’s emotions and help them handle them. Of course, every power has it’s draw backs, but I adapted to my power quickly. Soon, I was known as the person you came to if you needed help. I had only been alive for fifteen years, yet I knew my purpose.
Through the course of my fifteenth year of existence, I learned as much as I could about myself and my abilities. I trained and became strong. I got a friend of mine to teach me to fight and handle a sword. I got a different friend to teach me to handle a gun. My mother taught me to use a bow and arrow. My friend Sandy taught me as much as she knew about how to harness my powers, which were growing. By the time of the celebration of my sixteenth year of existence, I was a powerful young girl. I had devoted my life to helping my friends and protecting them. I’d officially been alive for sixteen years when I saved my first Innocent.
I was on my way to a friends house, walking, because I was broke and had no money for gas, and my car, of course, was completely out. My neighbor hood is not exactly a “bad neighbor hood” but I wouldn’t have walked anywhere without some knowledge of being able to protect myself. But I most certainly did not expect to see a woman being attacked. I walked around the corner, and saw two men holding a young woman a bit older than me to the ground, pummeling her. I gasped and ran toward them. “HEY! What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”
“This has nothing to do with you, bitch,” One of the attackers shouted at me.
“I certainly hope you don’t expect me to stand by and watch an innocent one get her brains beat out,” I told them stopping in front of them.
“Well, I cer-tain-ly don’t know whatchoo gonna do ‘bout it.” the second attacker spat at me.
Oh god, they spoke stupid English. Seriously, what was America coming to? “This.” I swiftly crouched down, and kicked up and over, effectively throwing the pair into the side of the building. I stood and walked over to where the were now sprawled. Crouching down so that I was on eye level I said, “I certainly hope you didn’t think I was a weakling just because I’m a woman.” I gave them a huge grin and then grabbed their heads and slammed them together. With a satisfied smirk, I straightened and walked over to help up the young woman. “Are you alright?”
She nodded gratefully, “Thank you so much, I honestly don’t know what I can do to repay you!”
Normally, I would have made a smart remark, but at that moment I was drawing blank. “Really, I’m just doing my job as a protector of the innocent. Just tell me, why were they attacking you?”
She looked solemn. “Those men tried to rape my sister, at a party, but I called the cops on them and my older brother knocked them out. We moved from the old city but the tracked us down now that they’re out of jail, and I guess they came to get their revenge.”
I frowned deeply, then pulled out my phone. “I’m calling the cops, get out of here in case those two wake up before they get here.” She nodded and sped off in the direction I’d come from.
I never learned that woman’s name, but that moment stuck with me my whole life. I’d only been alive sixteen years and I’d already saved someone’s life.
Two months after I turned 18, a friend of mine and I commissioned the erection of two large, four story houses on a large lot in the back country of Tennessee, on Kentucky Lake. There were no other houses for miles, and we got the land real cheap. We built those houses for one reason; to provide shelter for any of our friends. A lot of our friends had troubling home lives, and were anxious to get out of their parents homes, but didn’t really have the means to get a house of their own. So, we came up with a solution; build two houses big enough for a very large group of people to live and let our friends live there. We’d all help pay for the houses, and everything in the house we’d need to support our extended “family”, I.e. groceries and hygiene products. We’d all live together and we’d all have jobs. It’d be like collage, only…not.
Not long after we built the houses, many of our friends, my mother included, came to live there. My friends who’s significant others lived in other states all moved in, Johnny and Aiko, Kellie and Eric, Sandy and Tim. Jimmy moved in and brought a bunch of animals. Ashlyn and Devon moved in from North Carolina. Even Jenna came down from Canada. Soon the houses were bustling with everyday life.

“I honestly don’t know what you people expect from me,” I told the small group assembled in the living room. “I already told you about the concert, three weeks ago and I reminded you again two days ago. I asked any of you if you wanted to go.”
“Well, yeah, but you should have reminded us to give you our answer,” Jimmy responded, stroking the big fluffy cat in her lap.
“I did! Devon remembered!” I gestured at my short best friend standing behind me. “ And that’s saying something!” She squeaked indignantly. “I can’t help it if you people are so brain dead that you can’t give me a simple yes or no when I ask you something.”
“Hey, whoa, that’s harsh, For-chan,” Johnny commented, only paying half attention seeing as he and Eric were going head to head in Super Smash Bros.; it was a close game.
“Yo, you people should be used to it by now, anyway, we’re going out, be back later,” I grabbed poor Devon’s hand and we rushed out the door. We got in my car, cranked up the radio.
“What’s up, For-chan, you’re tense,” Devon asked.
I shrugged. “I have a weird feeling something’s gonna happen tonight.” She tilted her head to the side and I shook mine, smiling. “I guess I’m just over due for a good concert.”
Devon nodded and smiled. “Yeah, we get less concerts out here than 2we got back home.”
“Pssht, I got plenty of concerts back home, you just lived in Hicksville.” She gave me a playful punch as we laughed happily.

I’ve been alive for 23 years and I’ve done nothing with my life but waste it. My life has managed to go completely down hill until now. I have absolutely nothing left, except a run down truck and three pairs of clothes. I sat back in the truck trying to remember the last time I laughed. It’d been with Forest, when I went to her graduation. Things were already getting bad at that point, but she somehow made me laugh. She had a habit of doing that. She said it was her calling, to help people.
It was then, as I drove down the highway, remembering that smiling, yet cynical girl that I wished I had her to help me then. For some reason I knew she’d be able to help me get back on my feet. Unfortunately, I had no idea where she was.
Everyone I knew and gone of and become successful. They all had jobs and homes or they were in collage. Gavin was acing his courses in collage, of course. Steph was engaged. Sarita was….
….Sarita….
“Where ya off to now?” I asked her.
“Sandra and I are going to live in Tennessee!” She answered brightly, cheerful as always. Since Forest and Steph left, she was the most cheerful person I knew.
“Tennessee?” I asked, kind of confused. “What’s there for you in Tennessee?”
“Well, we’re going to move in with For-chan, she’s got two HUGE houses out there. She had them built so that any of her friends could live there once their parents kicked them out and they didn’t really have enough money for a house. And it’s on Kentucky Lake too, so it supposed to be really pretty. We’re gonna live there until we have enough money to buy a house of our own.”
“Sarita, I love you.”
