Life as a Self Proclaimed Modern Day Samurai...

The Way of the Samurai, an ancient tradition of a warrior of principles, dedicating his self to the blade of a sword... No, his sword, not just any sword, but this sword defines him... It IS him. He lives by wisdom and honor, honing every skill, everything he does to perfection so that he may better live his way of life. His heart filled with passion, bravery, and no regrets. No regrets... How distant a thought like that seems, a man who lives his life by the sword, his very life a savage and undying war. How could one who lives like that have no regrets? The word samurai in old cultures meant service, many a samurai serving a shogun, or further yet, the Emperor of Japan. If one lives in service, not just service for pay or land, but service fueled by all the warriors feelings and principles, one could do anything without any regrets. As long as your helping another with every fabric of your being, your soul is truly free. Your emotions will drive you.

By these calculations, I figure that even in the ever so fallen age we live in samurai still exist and thrive. I even would go as far to say it is because of these modern day warriors that we have not completely collapsed into self-ruin. Well, okay, so there aren't fully armored samurai walking the streets brandishing their katanas at every thief, murderer, and terrorist out there, but hear me out.

When I speak of "modern day samurai", I speak of a means of comparison. Think of some of your heroes for instance. What do they do to be considered such in your book? I know of a man, I will not name his name for reasons of confidentiality, I can use as an example. This man is an advent Christian, who spends every waking moment serving God. He gains wisdom through experience and trial by error, so that he may share it with others. He would gladly put others first before satisfying his own wants and needs. Reading his Bible, listening to God's word, so that he may use it to further his and others faith. Using that knowledge as a sword, HIS sword, to fight a spiritual battle not of this world. After considering these things, it seems in a different way, he and the samurai are similar, if not the same. Keep in mind, comparisons such as this do not only pertain to Christians, but the same thing could be said of anybody who gives themselves up to help another, however small it may be.

So I finish with this, it is through these speculations that I have decided to try and live my life in aid of others. Whether in success or in failure, I will have no regret because inside I will have known I tried, and I have no regret in that. Maybe you should consider the same. Helping someone is easy, the decision may not be, it is up to you. Take the high road and bear arms with me, just another Modern Day Samurai.
