They Say

They said:

I was quiet, shy, and cute.

I was the girl next door.

I was just average old me.

I said:

I was naïve.

I was still in that little cage.

I was under the influence.

They think:

She doesn’t know anything.

She wouldn’t hurt you.

She is just there to be there.

I think:

She isn’t just there.

She knows what’s happening.

She just doesn’t know what to do.

Influenced by the caged world I survived in

Told by others what to do

Lost in my own little world

Now I have seen the light

At the end of the tunnel, there’s more

So much more for me

To finally live.

Independent, free, and alive!

So fun to finally have freedom.

I break free from my steel cage

I enter your world,

And you better be prepared.

Little steps at first…

Different colors of nail polish

New habits

Bigger steps later…

A new wardrobe

Room redecorated

They say:

I am changed.

I am different.

I am noticed.

I say:

I am me.

I am free.

I am only the girl inside unleashed.

They will say:

She’s loud.

She may be a bitch.

She is wonderful.

I will say:

She is me.

She speaks what she wants.

She gets what she wants.

I am what I am, and I will be free. I am what I want to be, and I will have what I want. I am what I am inside, and she will be unleashed. I am what I will, and I will be there to sweep you off your feet. I am what I am.
