Chapter Five

I found myself hiking up the river from the pool where I had somewhat bathed about an hour earlier. I was following my brothers, Matt and David as they talked about our supplies and what we could use to create a signal.

A jungle forest fire would be totally out of the question, burning all our supplies, food, and possibly us if it went out of control. A controlled fire would take a lot of care, but we could do it nonetheless. Sticks on the beach reading help? Totally out of the question.

I pulled my wet hair into a ponytail and sighed as I climbed up to meet my brothers, suddenly being grateful that I was a rebellious student and wore my competition clothes, carpenter jeans, belt and work boots with a polo type shirt, other than my official attire, which was Sunday best.

David wore his tan Dickies jumpsuit, just like Matt did and they looked quite comfortable, and buff. I envied them as I watched them walk ahead of me.

“Nice Daisy Dukes…” I heard a voice said from behind me. My brothers and I spun around as we saw Fred approach me. Now let me put this simply for my readers. Fred did not know that David and Matt were my brothers. We had decided to keep that a secret when our parents divorced when we were first in Jr. High school. The boys changed their last name to Anderson, a very common name and I kept my mothers name of Roberts. Fred didn’t know we were even related.

But we looked it.

“They do something for that butt of yours.” He said slapping my butt and walking up to my brothers. “Sup boys?” He asked high-fiving them. I bit my lip and watched the boys as they talked. Something was up, and I had to find out.

“I’m gonna go to the cave guys.” I said pointing my thumb over my shoulder towards the cave. “Talk to ya’ll later.”

“Ya’ll?” Matt asked me with a raised eyebrow.

“Yes, Ya’ll.” I said putting my hands on my hips. “Unlike you boys I was raised in Tennessee, so you Kansas boys watch it or my accent will come out to kick your ass.” I said then turned and started back down the hill.

“Chris!” I said breathlessly as I wandered into the cave. Chris looked up from his piece of wood that he was whittling with and furrowed his brow at me.

“Ami- I thought you were with David and Matt,” He said.

“I was, but Chris something is going on, and all the boys know it…” I said kneeling down in front of him. “What is it?”

Chris spent a minute looking at me, then back to his woodwork, then back to me. “I saw what happened with you and Fred.”

“Is that a part of it?” I asked. Chris nodded.

“There is a tribe on this island, and they took Melinda last night, now they saw you and Fred, and now they want Fred’s life and you as a part of their tribe, like their princess or something…which of course is confusing because Melinda and BreAnna are so much “prettier and more feminine and-”

“Chris, shut up and keep talking.” I said stopping his ramble.

“Sorry, anyways, so Matt and David are saying ‘hell no’ but Fred is saying ‘hell yes, save me take her’ the girls don’t really know too much other than that they took Melinda and we were going to keep it a secret from you, but we must really suck at keeping secrets because we are usually really good back at school and stuff because me and Fred know all about your threesome with you and David and Matt, but I promise no one else knows and-”

“Stop!” I said holding a hand up. “Threesome?”

“Yeah, one night you were at David’s house and Matt was over there too and we all know that there was a threesome.”

“You idiot!” I said standing up. “We’re friggin’ triplets!”

“Oh, well that explains a lot.” Chris said.

“Dur.” I said. “Now keep going.”

“Well anyways, so we are debating on what to do. We don’t want to sacrifice anybody, but they come at night and we don’t know if they’ll kidnap anybody else or what and I am out of things to say which is amazing.” Chris said with a sigh.

“I’ll say.” I said then with an exasperated sigh of my own sat down on the ground and buried my head into my hands and made a noise, which was the cross between a grunt and a yell, then stood up. “I’ve got to go.” I said then walked out.

“Where are you going?” He yelled after me, but I waved him off and stormed off, frustrated and worried even worse than before.

I continued to storm off onto the beach where I climbed onto the plane and begun to dig around the black remains, looking for anything to save me and my friends from the tribal crap that was looming over us.

“Maybe I can play dead.” I said. “Create a cross for me and hide from everyone. Make it look like an accident.”

“But would you really kill yourself Amielle?”
