You know that eerie feeling you sometimes get first thing in the morning? When you wake up knowing that something’s going to happen. Something bad. You know the dream you just had was full of blood and gore, death and pain, but you have absolutely no idea what happened. You don’t want to get out of bed afraid that something might lurk beneath it, waiting to grab you ankles and drag you into the dark. The Dark. That’s what scared Helena. That’s why she still had a nightlight at the age of 21. That’s why she didn’t want to go to this ‘Noir’ club, the one Catharine was always talking about. Now she decided Helena needed to get out of that studio apartment they shared.

Catherine was out every night, partying, drinking, meeting cute boys. Helena would rather stay at home with her books and paint. She was a meek girl. Her grandmother always warned her about going out at night. On her 15th birthday she gave her a silver cross with an iron chain.

Sliver for werewolves.

A cross for vampires.

Iron for fairies.

And still after all the years that passed when she was out at night her grandmothers stories still rang threw her head. Be careful Helena, bad things lurk in the dark. Shadows made her jump, the wind sent shivers down her spine, usual sounds sent her running up the last few steps to her apartment.

But still Catharine managed to drag her out somewhere every now and then. What else can you expect from a best friend? But now sitting at the table sipping her 7up and watching as Catharine danced with some good looking guy, she was reminded of another reason why she hated going to clubs. She’s nervous wreck around boys. Unlike Catharine who had more boys than IQ points. They preferred Catharine’s curly blonde hair, to her wavy brown. Catharine’s light blue eyes to her dark brown ones. She wasn’t always sure what made boys fall for Catharine, she was pretty yes, in fact Helena would even call her beautiful, but these boys talked about something more then looks. All talk she supposed. The few boyfriends she had, either left her for Catherine or talked about her non-stop.

But despite that Catherine remanded her best friend. She dated Helena’s ex’s, she constantly criticized her, pinched her, hit her, made fin of her choice in boys. But after all what friend didn’t right? Catherine was Helena’s first real best friend. And despite her faults, she was always there for her. So right now she was content watching her dance with her new boy, glad that she was happy again. She didn’t like attention that much really anyways, she’d be happy if no really talked to her at all.

“You got ditched to huh?” Helena jumped in her chair, surprised at the sudden guest at her table. The girl gave her quizzical stare then nodded her head towards Catharine and her dance partner.

“Oh uhhh…he came with you” She said trying to inch away from the stranger without falling off her chair. She didn’t like being so close to strange people, and this one just appeared out of no where.

“I’m Kiora.” She stated as she extended her arm and gave a warm smile. “That’s Seth.” Helena looked between the two, then nervously reached her hand out to Kioras. The Loud music finally died down and Catharine dragged Seth back to the table and sat down across form Helena and Kiora. She smiled at Helena before noticing Kiora sitting beside her.

“Oh, who’s she?” Catharine panted.

“Kiora.” Seth yawned leaning back into his chair and pulling Catharine onto his lap. Helena sat quietly watching the three talk about whatever crossed their mind. She kept her eyes fixed on the two new comers. Seth and Kiora. Their eerily pale skin, how their eyes almost seemed to glow in the dark room, their skin was flawless, their smiling alluring. Perfect. Some people just have all the luck.
